For decades, Shyam Sadhu has fed the monkeys of Raebareli through Vanarbhoj, taken in animals that were hurt or abandoned, and planted the trees and gardens around him — while asking others to care for the living world where they are.

Krishna Kumar Mishra is known to almost everyone as Shyam Sadhu. From his home in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, he has spent decades feeding monkeys through Vanarbhoj, taking in injured and abandoned animals, and tending the trees and garden that have grown up around that work.

Vanarbhoj — feeding the monkeys — is the centre of Shyam Sadhu's day. In his understanding, to serve the monkeys is to serve Hanuman himself.
He goes regularly to Bhanvare Suran, a village near Nigoha, to feed the monkeys there. One of them, a blind infant he found on one of those visits, now lives with him at home.
